We arrived in Springfield, Illinois, around 2:30 and checked into the President Abraham Lincoln Double Tree. We were within walking distance of the Lincoln Library and Museum. We had time to see the the museum which we both thoroughly enjoyed. We had planned to leave for Grand Rapids first thing tomorrow morning but have decided to stay a bit longer and visit the Lincoln Home and Visitor center. After relaxing for a bit, we decided to walk down and see the Lincoln Home National Historic Site. It was the neighborhood where Lincoln lived in Springfield. It was a very pleasant area. Tomorrow we will return and actually go inside a home. We finished our day with supper at Bennigans. I had never eaten at one. Can't say I was overly impressed. All in all a very enjoyable first day.

Mackinac Island, August 2014--Day 1
August 23 we traveled from Lawrence to Springfield, Illinois. Took us about 6 hours to include all of our stops--breakfast, a pit stop, lunch--along the way. We ate our breakfast at a McDonalds in Kearney, Missouri, then lunch at a Subway in Barry, Illinois. We had a little trouble finding the Subway so in 5 minutes or less were able to explore most of Barry.
